Meet the steady heart of the hub.

Warm, relational and experienced β€” the people who make the hub a home.

Shylet, head facilitator

Shylet ("Shy")

Head & full-time facilitator

Seven years in Self-Directed Education. Shy brings a calm, grounded presence shaped by community building, caregiving and facilitating children of different ages and needs. Outside the hub: crochet, cooking and soccer-team energy.

Tamryn, founder

The community

A year-round local SDE co-op.

Travelling families don't just visit a space β€” they plug into a steady local rhythm. Local families are the heartbeat of the hub, so the friendships are real and the support is already there when you arrive.

Our philosophy
"Unschooling is not a curriculum; it is a way of being. We believe the environment is the intervention."

We prioritise horizontal relationships, consent and nervous-system safety above all else. Adults do the inner work here β€” modelling presence, regulation and real curiosity β€” and support children who are already experts in their own journey.

Neurodiversity & SDE

A safe space for demand-sensitive children.

Self-Directed Education is often recommended for children with high demand sensitivity or PDA profiles. Rather than increasing pressure and then helping children tolerate it, we reduce coercion at the root.

Nervous-system safety
Horizontal relationships
True choice
Regulation before redirection

This is not a behavioural-management space. It is a relational one.

FAQ

Clarity for your worldschooling journey.

Is this a school?

No. We're a worldschooling hub β€” a community space and rhythm for families who have opted out of traditional schooling. We provide facilitation and environment, not a curriculum.

What ages do you serve?

The hub is designed for self-directed learners of all ages. Core facilitation usually supports children aged 5 to 15. Younger siblings are welcome with a parent.

Do parents have to stay on-site?

It depends on how you join. Option 1 (Stay & Join Community) is parent-accompanied. Option 2 (Drop-off Hub) includes supervised facilitation, so parents can work or explore.

What is Self-Directed Education, in simple terms?

The belief that children are naturally curious and capable of directing their own learning. We provide a rich environment and horizontal relationships rather than top-down instruction.

Is tech or gaming allowed?

Yes. We see technology as a tool for creation, socialising and regulation. We don't moralise tech β€” we balance it with abundant outdoor time and real-world connection.

How do you handle safety and supervision?

Our facilitators are trained in SDE practice and nervous-system safety. We keep a high adult-to-child ratio and prioritise consent and relational safety at all times.

What does the Hub cost?

The Hub Experience is R300 per child per day on a three-day week, with a 10% discount for siblings. Ask us about full-week rates. Every family gets a personal proposal with accommodation, Hub days and a full price breakdown before booking.

What are the Hub hours?

Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 16:00. You choose which days your children join, and we're happy to be flexible.

What's included, and what costs extra?

Included: full-day facilitation, activity room access, everyday art, craft and project supplies, any children's workshops on your Hub days, and all community meetups. Extra: entry fees for special outings or excursions, which are always optional and shared in advance.

What should my children bring?

A packed lunch each day and clothes that can handle active, outdoor and messy play. Drinking water is available all day.

How do payment and deposits work?

You can secure your dates by paying accommodation plus a refundable breakage deposit on booking, then settle Hub fees on arrival. Or pay your full stay upfront and get a further 10% off accommodation. The breakage deposit is returned within 7 days of checkout.

Do we need to book one of your homes?

No. You're welcome to book your own accommodation and plug into the hub β€” though booking one of our homes direct is the easiest landing.

What about visas?

Many international visitors receive a 90-day visa on arrival in South Africa, but this depends on your passport. Please confirm the requirements for your country before you travel.
